The Quiet Garden
The churchyard at St John’s has been closed to new burials for many years. Over the decades it had become untidy and served no very useful purpose. In 2008 the churchyard was cleared and new paths and planting areas were laid out to create a focal point for the people of Farncombe to meet, sit and chat – a sort of enclosed Village Green. Thus the Quiet Garden came into being.
We are very grateful for the generous support we have received from many local people and funding bodies including Living Spaces, Breathing Places, Waverley Borough Council, Godalming Town Council, Surrey County Council, Loseley Christian Trust and the E R Thomas Trust. We have received donations for plants, trees and benches from Farncombe residents and receive considerable gifts-in-kind from our volunteers who give much of their time and skills to assist the project.
Offers of help to maintain the Quiet Garden are always welcome! The main job is weeding the borders and other areas around the garden. Working parties are arranged during the year; however some volunteers prefer to work in the Garden at other times. Waverley Council mow the grass and maintain the fences, and we appreciate their ongoing help!
